About Us
The Barking Orange is a Doggy Daycare, Grooming and Training facility located just outside downtown Syracuse in the Inner Harbor area, conveniently located off 690 and 81 exits. We specialize in personal care for your dog while you are away at work. Our daycare facility is committed to providing a safe, clean, and fun environment for your dog. Your dog will come home happy and tired after a day of supervised play! Your dog will always be attended to, as we take our role very seriously. Many of our daycare leaders certified in animal CPR, have worked at previous daycare’s, or have vet experience. We are always happy to accommodate special requests such as extra outside time, walks, feeding, etc. Our groomer is available by appointment Monday-Friday and offers an all inclusive groom (Bath, Brushing, De-shedding, Haircut, Ear Cleaning, Nail Trimming). Prices depend on breed, age and temperament. We do have some breed and size restrictions. We will send your dog home looking pretty and smelling good! We also offer a variety of training classes such as Beginner Obedience, Puppy classes, Leash Walking, Agility, Pet CPR and a Reactive Rover workshop. We follow the positive reinforcement method of training.
We require that all dogs interested in daycare, go through an initial screening and interview. An application form is available for download on our website. We encourage you to call us today to schedule your interview! We are a small staff and are committed to making you and your dog a part of our family.
Sara menkin
Owner
Sara Edsall is the owner of The Barking Orange. Sara was born and raised in Syracuse, NY and after 10 years in the corporate world in Boston and San Francisco, decided to move back home to pursue her passion- DOGS! In the spring of 2009, she adopted YuBe- a friendly, loving and playful Boston Terrier. YuBe’s sweet disposition and passion for playing quickly turned into an inspiration for this business. YuBe was a frequent customer of doggy daycare in San Francisco and Boston, and Sara very early on recognized the benefits of daycare for dogs. YuBe is a better dog as a result of the socialization he learned from these experiences. The Barking Orange is dedicated to YuBe! When she’s not at daycare, she’s busy raising three boys, spending time with her husband Dan and family, and cuddling with her other Boston Terrier Summer and her Golden Retriever Ash!
Sam marks
Operations manager
Sam Marks was born in Lynn, MA and raised in Syracuse, NY. Sam has always had a passion for animals. As a kid he owned many pets including reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. He graduated from SUNY-ESF with a degree in Natural History and Interpretation. While pursuing his degree he did an internship at the Rosamond Gifford zoo where he learned how much work it takes to care for large groups of animals. After graduating college, he began volunteering at the Page Wildlife Center in Manlius, NY. He had the pleasure of rehabilitating many animals there, helped with education programs, and took care of some amazing animals. It was a great experience! About three years ago, Sam decided he wanted a dog. He ended up adopting Knox, an Australian Cattle Dog/Labrador Retriever puppy from Golden Huggs rescue. Sam and Knox immediately started attending a puppy kindergarten class at a nearby dog daycare/training facility. Seeing Knox socialize and play with the other puppies brought so much joy to Sam that he ended up working at the dog daycare for 2 ½ years. Now he is the Operations Manager of The Barking Orange where he could not be happier. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, photography, playing basketball, dog training, cooking, eating healthy, and spending time with his family, friends, Knox and his girlfriend Erin
